Sarjis Alam, a coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination, has resigned as general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, reports The Daily Star.

He shared this information in a post on his verified Facebook profile this morning.

"I am no longer the general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Changes have been made to the foundation‍‍`s constitution, structure, and working process to accelerate its progress," he wrote.

He further said that the executive committee will now oversee the foundation‍‍`s operations, with the chief executive officer (CEO) leading the office.

Currently, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho holds the CEO position. The governing body, including four advisers covering health, social welfare, local government, and ICT, will handle the foundation‍‍`s policymaking.

There is no longer a position titled ‍‍`general secretary,‍‍` he added.

"The foundation began providing financial assistance on October 1, and the office started operating from October 15. I assumed the role of general secretary on October 21. I served in this capacity for approximately 2 months and 10 days, until December 31. After that, I stepped down from the position," he said.

"Finally, my signing authority was transferred on January 7, officially marking the end of my responsibilities," he added.

He further said, "During my tenure, I did not draw any salary or honorarium from the foundation."

"By December 31, financial assistance had been provided to 628 out of 826 verified martyr families. Additionally, approximately 2,000 out of 11,000 verified injured individuals received financial support."

"I continued to serve as long as I could dedicate my maximum time to the foundation. When I realised that it would no longer be possible for me to give the required time, I stepped down from my position. To me, addressing one‍‍`s limitations and taking on or relinquishing responsibilities accordingly is not a weakness; rather, it requires genuine courage. I have tried to remain honest and accountable to the responsibilities of my position," he added.
