Apple is on the brink of striking a deal with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT features to iPhones, as per sources close to the negotiations, Cointelegraph reported.
Should the agreement come to fruition, users can expect to see ChatGPT capabilities integrated into Apple`s upcoming iOS 18 software update, as outlined in a May 11 Bloomberg article. It`s mentioned that discussions are also ongoing with Alphabet, Google`s parent company, about potentially incorporating the Gemini chatbot. However, it appears that talks with Apple are further along.
At present, it remains uncertain whether users will retain the option to disable these features within the new operating system.
Merely a year ago, speculations arose that Apple had restricted ChatGPT`s use within the company due to concerns regarding data security.
Nevertheless, recent reports indicate that the company is doubling down on its efforts to establish a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) division.
On April 30, Cointelegraph disclosed that Apple had been actively recruiting talent from Google to construct its own team of AI and machine learning specialists.
In addition to assembling these expert teams, the company has also made headlines for acquiring two AI startups based in Zurich, Switzerland. This move has led to the establishment of a covert laboratory in the region dubbed the "Vision Lab."
