iPhone 17 Air: What we know so far about the ultra-thin model

Apple has yet to make an official announcement, but there‍‍`s growing confidence that the tech giant will release an ultra-slim iPhone later this year.

Reliable sources close to the company and tech analysts are pointing to the iPhone 17 Air as the likely candidate.

Recently, Bloomberg‍‍`s Mark Gurman shared crucial insights into the price and features of the new iPhone 17 Air.

While some of this information isn’t entirely new, the way Gurman presented it adds weight to the details.

Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, has given a sneak peek into what we can expect from the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.

One concern many have is the impact of such a slim design on battery life. The thinner the phone, the harder it is to fit a large battery.

However, Gurman put those worries to rest by confirming that the iPhone 17 Air will offer similar battery performance as other iPhone models.

Although he didn’t go into specifics, a source called "Ice Universe" recently suggested that Apple could use high-density battery cells to ensure longer battery life in the Air model.

As for the price, Gurman has some good news for those concerned the iPhone 17 Air will be too expensive.

According to Gurman, the starting price for the Air model in the U.S. could be $899.

This price would make the iPhone 17 Air comparable to the iPhone 16 Plus, putting it just below the base model of the 17 series in terms of cost.

It seems that the iPhone 17 Air will be one of the more affordable options in the iPhone 17 lineup.

The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to share some design features with the iPhone 16 series.

Gurman reports that, just like the iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 17 Air will have a camera control button.

The bezel around the screen might also be as thick as the one seen on the iPhone 16 series, giving the 17 Air a similar look to its predecessor.

Looking at the specifications, the iPhone 17 Air will likely feature a 6.6-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dynamic Island, and a 48-megapixel single-lens camera.

The device will also run on the new A19 chip.

However, the Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 17 series will feature a more advanced A19 Pro chip.

Could the iPhone 17 Air Be the First Port-Free iPhone?

There has been a lot of speculation about the iPhone 17 Air potentially being the first iPhone without any ports.

The rumor suggests that the device might not have a USB-C charging port or any other ports at all.

However, Gurman has addressed this rumor, shedding some light on Apple‍‍`s original plans.

According to Gurman, Apple had initially intended to release the iPhone 17 Air as a port-free device.

But the company changed course after considering potential legal challenges.

A port-free iPhone could be at odds with European Union regulations, prompting Apple to include a USB-C port in the device.

This decision was influenced by recent regulations in Europe that forced Apple to switch from the Lightning port to the USB-C port.

So, while the iPhone 17 Air won’t be port-free, Gurman hinted that Apple may eventually release a port-free iPhone in the future.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September. However, the company has yet to release official details about the 17 series.
