Media personalities have been calling out the cast members of the controversial Eid drama ‘Ghotona Shotto’ since its release. In the wake of the ongoing social media outrage among netizens, the drama’s lead cast Afran Nisho finally spoke out online on Thursday (July 29).
The actor, whose real name is Ahammed Fazle Rabbi, took to his personal Facebook profile with a long apology note claiming that he is “sorry, ashamed, and embarrassed” by his actions in ‘Ghotona Shotto.’
He wrote: “I am Afran Nisho. An actor. A father. And like every father in the world, I am equally passionate about my own child. Some unintentional and unwanted mistakes had been made with the Eid drama 'Ghotona Shotto.' I have also been able to feel the tears of the parents whose hearts have cried over it. So. I am also sympathetic to everyone's grief. And I apologize to every family."
He further added that he will be more sensitive to any social issues in the future.
His latest public apology received mixed reactions by Bangladeshi netizens.
The Eid drama, starring popular Bangladeshi actors Afran Nisho and Mehazabien Chowdhury, sparked outrage online as a scene during its ending claimed that specially-abled children are the ‘result of their parents’ sin.’
On Monday, news broke that a NGO will file a police case against the creators and stars behind the show.
Previously, the drama’s director Rubel Hasan, lead cast Afran Nisho, Mehzabien Chowdhury and CMV founder SK Shahed Ali Pappu released a joint apology statement on July 25 but did not make any further comments to the press afterwards.
‘Ghotona Shotto’ released on July 24 sparked outrage online as its screenplay contained derogatory and false information about differently-abled children and was later removed from CMV’s official YouTube channel.
