Atletico Madrid keeps showing their character as they hold on to their terrific form in Laliga. With only one defeat in 19 matches in Laliga, they still have one match in hand yet they are already 10 matches ahead followed by Barcelona and Real Madrid; both of whom are at 40 points each.
Having travelled to Andalusia from the Spanish Capital to face Cardiz, Atletico had a lot to do and the match held significance especially considering that Cardiz has already defeated the reigning champions and Atleti’s local rival Real Madrid earlier this season.
Following Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at home against Levante, Atletico delivered an imposing performance against 13th place Cadiz who put up a good fight. The match ended in a compelling score line of 4-2 in favour of Atletico Madrid. Luis Suarez, scored a stunning freekick on the 27th minute to give Atleti the initial lead. Even though Cardiz responded within 7 minutes with an equaliser, they couldn’t hold out against Atleti. Suarez scored a brace in the 50th minute from the spot. Saul and Koke added two more to the tally.
Following the win against Cadiz, Atletico are cruising towards the title standing comfortably at the top. Suarez now stands as the top scorer in Laliga this season with 14 goals from 16 appearances outscoring Messi, who has 12 goals from 18 appearances. It might be worth mentioning that Suarez arrived at Atleti on a free transfer from Barcelona following Korman’s arrival.
