A legal notice has been issued demanding the removal of former parliament member and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan from the national cricket team and his repatriation to face investigation in a murder case.
The notice, sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) authorities by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmud Alam on Saturday, comes as the Bangladesh cricket team is currently in Pakistan for a two-match Test series.
On Thursday, a murder case was filed against Shakib Al Hasan by Rafiqul Islam, the father of the deceased Rubel, at Adabor police station in Dhaka. Shakib is listed as the 28th accused in the case, which also names former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Ferdous Ahmed, and 153 others, along with 400-500 unidentified persons.
The case alleges that on August 5, Rubel was shot during a protest march on Ring Road in Adabor. The shooting, claimed to be part of a criminal conspiracy, resulted in Rubel being injured in the chest and abdomen. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Rubel died from his injuries on August 7.
