Govt to honor families of children killed in July movement

The government has announced that families of children killed during the July Movement will be honored as part of this year’s World Children’s Day celebrations. The day will be observed nationwide on October 6.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on Wednesday (October 1), the recognition ceremony will take place during the official celebration events.

In addition, National Child Rights Week will be observed from September 29 to October 5 across the country, jointly organized by government and non-government organizations. This year’s World Children’s Day theme is “Let’s Speak for Children, Let’s Act for Children.”

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, will organize a program at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmin S. Murshid will attend as the chief guest, while Senior Secretary of the ministry, Momtaz Ahmed, will preside over the event. Representatives from UNICEF and child delegates will also deliver special remarks.

Parents of children killed during the July Movement will share their reflections, and a documentary on children will be screened during the event.
