The police have submitted charges in 34 cases related to incidents that occurred during the recent student-led uprising across the country. Among these, 13 are murder cases, while the remaining 21 pertain to other criminal offenses.
A press release from the Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon provided the details.
According to the release, the 13 murder cases involve incidents in Sherpur, Feni, Chandpur, Comilla, Dhaka, and Kurigram districts, as well as investigations conducted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, and Chattogram Metropolitan Police. The 21 other criminal cases cover Bogura, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, Naogaon, Mymensingh, and Jamalpur districts, along with cases handled by Dhaka, Barishal, and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
A total of 1,390 accused are named in the murder cases, while 777 individuals face charges in the other cases, bringing the overall number of accused to 2,167.
The press release also stated that senior police officials are closely monitoring the investigations to ensure proper scrutiny of all incidents that occurred during the July–August uprising.
Furthermore, the police are committed to completing the ongoing investigations of other cases and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
