The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has announced that the names of individuals falsely listed as “July fighters” will be removed and legal action will be taken against them. A new gazette will be issued to update the records, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
According to the release, recent media reports about “fake July martyrs” and “fake July fighters” have drawn the ministry’s attention. The ministry said it regularly publishes gazettes on July martyrs and fighters and oversees activities such as the distribution of allowances.
The list of July martyrs and fighters included in the Health Ministry’s MIS and sent to the Liberation War Ministry has already been gazetted. Names identified as fake have been verified and removed, with the process still ongoing, it said.
The Directorate of the July Mass Uprising is also re-verifying names highlighted in the media. If any more fake entries are confirmed, they will be removed and legal steps will follow.
The ministry stressed its commitment to creating an accurate list of July martyrs and fighters.
