A guiding light of Bengali culture, Sanjida Khatun, founding member and president of Chhayanaut, not only spread the light of knowledge throughout her life but also donated her body for organ transplantation and research.
Her son, Partha Tanveer Noved, informed that the process of donating her body to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital (PG) in Dhaka was completed on Thursday according to her final wish, reports BDNews24.com.
Speaking to BDNews24.com, he said,
"This was a decision Sanjida Khatun made 27 years ago. Following her decision, the entire family agreed to hand over the body. Today, the process has been completed."
Sanjida Khatun, a legendary figure in Bengali cultural circles, was a personality who astonished researchers.
Her life was spent in a quest for the identity of Bengalis through music.
She passed away on Tuesday at 3 p.m. while undergoing treatment in the ICU at Square Hospital in Dhaka.
Her body was kept in the mortuary that night, and on Wednesday afternoon, her coffin was taken to Chhayanaut Bhaban, where teachers and students paid their last respects to her through music.
Her body was then taken to the Bengali Department of Dhaka University, where she once worked, and afterward to the Central Shaheed Minar, where artists, cultural workers, and people from all walks of life bid her a final farewell.
On Wednesday night, her body was kept in the hospital mortuary, and on Thursday, family members completed the process of handing over her body to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital.
