12 students of MCJ win Sitara Parvin award

A total of 12 students including 9 female students of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) have been bestowed the Professor Sitara Parvin award for their academic excellence in the honors exam.

The prize-giving ceremony was held at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium in Dhaka University (DU) at 11 am Sunday.

DU Vice-chancellor (VC) Dr Akhtaruzzaman handed over the prize money and the crest to the winners as a special guest while MCJ chairman Dr Abul Mansur Ahmed presided over the ceremony.

Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty  Professor Dr Fakhrul Alam discussed the life-work at the ceremony while delivering his speech as the guest speaker in the event.

In his speech, Dr Akhtaruzzaman said,“Her (Sitara) mannerism and way of living were the reflections of her humanitarian and inclusive belief.”

If she were physically alive she must have talked about the SDGs and worked in achieving those goals, he added.

Abul Mansur said, “She was a wonderful woman to adore. She tried her best to implement what she was committed to.”

Professor Mansur has reminisced his memories with Sitara Parvin at that time.

At the end of the programme Prof. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali thanked everyone for their presence.

The winners of the prize are 2015-16 session students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department. They won the prize for securing top 12 positions in their honors exam.

The recipients of Prof. Sitara Parvin Award are- Mili Akter, Ritu Karmokar, Jannatul Islam Ria, Tahura Tabassum Tari, Sumia Zahid, Md. Tariqul Islam, Tipu Sultan, Saidul Islam, Tanha Tasnim Ity, Farhana Akter, Mst. Nusrat Zabin Biva and Sumya Arefin Arni.

Prof. Dr. Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed and wife of Prof. Dr. Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali of DU MCJ Department died in a tragic road accident on June 23, 2005 in the USA.
