Two former cabinet members of different times passed away at capital`s Evercare hospital on early Saturday. Both of them are current lawmakers.
Former Aviation and Tourism Minister and ruling party MP of Lakshmipur-3 constituency, AKM Shahjahan Kamal passed away at 74.
Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, younger brother of the deceased and pro vice chancellor (academic) of Dhaka University, confirmed the death, saying that his elder brother breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka around 3:30 am.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza held at the south plaza of the parliament at 11 am on Saturday, and he will be laid to rest at the family graveyard after a second Janaza followed by Asr prayer at Laharkandi union in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur.
Shahjahan Kamal, a freedom fighter and former president of the district unit of Awami League, was elected from the Lakshmipur-3 constituency in the 2014 and 2018 elections with the boat symbol.
He served as minister for aviation and tourism for around one year after winning the 2018 election.
Moreover, former state minister for law, fisheries and lands and Brahmanbari-2 independent lawmaker Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan died at 84.
He breathed his last at 3:02am at the hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for the last one week.
Confirming his death, Abdus Sattar`s son Mainul Hasan Tushar said his father was suffering from kidney disease for a long time.
Abdul Sattar, a six-time elected Member of Parliament and was also a former advisor to the BNP Chairperson.
Abdus Sattar was an elected lawmaker from Brahmanbaria and Cumilla as a BNP candidate for five times, including the 11th parliamentary election held in 2018. He resigned from BNP on December 11, 2022.
Both the lawmakers died within a span of half an hour.
