Five compartments of the 'Sonar Bangla Express' train derailed in Nangalkot upazila of Comilla. The accident took place at the Hasanpur railway station of the upazila around 7:30 pm on Sunday. This has stopped the train connection between Dhaka and Chittagong. At least 50 people were injured in the accident. The condition of six of them is said to be critical.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station, Jasim Uddin Khandkar confirmed this information to the media.
He said that a mail train was standing at Hasanpur in Nangalkot. At this time, the Sonar Bangla train carrying passengers from Chittagong to Dhaka hit the mail train from behind. Five compartments of the passenger train were derailed. Several people were injured in this incident. However, no death has been reported so far.
Since the accident, train movement on that route has been temporarily stopped, and five seriously injured people have been sent to the hospital, informed the OC.
