8 thousand deaths in road accidents in 2023

About 8 thousand people died in road accidents in the year 2023. Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has given this information in the report titled ‍‍`Annual Road Accident Monitoring Report-2023‍‍`.

The secretary general of the association Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury presented this report in a press conference at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha of the capital on Sunday.

According to the report, 8 thousand 505 people were killed and 10999 people were injured in a total of 6929 accidents on road, rail and sea in 2023.

Among them, 7 thousand 902 people were killed and 10 thousand 372 people were injured in 6 thousand 261 road accidents.

In 2023 there were 2 thousand 31 motorcycle accidents. 2 thousand 152 people were killed and 1 thousand 339 people were injured in these accidents. Which is 32.43 percent of the total accidents, 27.23 percent of the dead and 12.90 percent of the injured.

Also, 512 people were killed and 475 injured in 520 railway accidents. 91 people were killed, 152 injured and 109 missing in 148 accidents on the waterways.

A comparative analysis of the statistics showed that in 2023 there was an 18.34 percent increase in accidents due to various reasons as compared to 2022.

The highest number of accidents occurred on January 17 in the last year. And on March 26, the least number of accidents occurred. The highest number of people were killed in the accident on July 7.
