The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh is conducting an independent investigation against Benazir Ahmed, according to Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader. "The Hasina government has given ACC this independence. Even if a former Army Chief is guilty, ACC can investigate," Quader stated.

These comments were made during a press briefing at the Awami League President‍‍`s political office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon (May 28).

Quader confirmed, "ACC is investigating former IGP Benazir Ahmed. Further investigations will be carried out. If a case is filed, he will face trial. No criminal will escape punishment."

Addressing speculation that Benazir Ahmed might receive leniency due to his roots in Tungipara, Quader asserted, "If he commits a crime, he must be punished."

The Minister also commented, "The politics of murder and abduction in this country started with BNP‍‍`s founder Ziaur Rahman. He abducted and killed three thousand activists. Today, BNP spreads propaganda to cover their crimes, forgiving criminals without punishment. The government has zero tolerance for corruption. Sheikh Hasina is uncompromising on corruption."

Among those present were Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdul Awal Shamim, and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, among others.
