Ambulance-pickup collision kills at least 5 in Tangail

At least five people including a woman have been killed in head-on collision between an ambulance and a fish laden pickup van in Kalihati of Tangail district.

The road mishap left five more people injured. Out of two sustained critical injury, local hospital authorities said.

The incident took place around 7:30pm on Saturday (July 3) on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway at Hatia of Kalihati.

However, the victims are yet to be identified. However, local and police station sources said, the woman who died in the incident was pregnant. She was going to Tangail Sadar hospital for a regular checkup.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospitals, Bangabandhu Bridge east police sources said.

“A north-bound ambulance collided with a fish laden pickup van at Hatia area around 7:30am today (Saturday). Three died on the spot and seven sustained injury. The injured were taken to Tangail General Hospital where two more succumbed”, Officer in-Charge (OC) Sahedul Islam of the police station told media.
