Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the government has taken steps to build a modern armed forces imbued with modern technological knowledge.
The prime minister said this while addressing the third reunion parade of Bangladesh Infantry Regiment (BIR) in Rajshahi Cantonment.
She said that the government wants that the armed forces will be developed with the capability to face any situation of the country.
“For that purpose we are implementing various programmes,” she said.
She mentioned that the armed forces is also working for the infrastructural development of the country side by side remaining beside the people of the country in any natural calamities and other necessities.
“This way the armed forces are contributing towards the country’s development,” she said.
The prime minister also mentioned that the people of the country will remain united to build the country and advance it towards prosperity.
“Our aim is to make Bangladesh as a developed and prosperous one and I believe that we will be able to advance the country,” she said.
Hasina briefly described various measurers of the government for the development of the armed forces.
“In the light of the far-reaching defence policy of the Father of the Nation, we have formulated the `Forces Goal 2030`, and the armed forces are being continuously developed,” she said.
PM Hasina said that in 2009 she awarded the Regimental Colour to the BIR and in 2011 she conferred the prestigious National Flag.
She also said that at present the regiment has a total of 46 units including two para commando battalions.
“The members of this unit are performing their duties with skill, reputation and patriotism in and outside the country. It is my hope that you will work diligently to maintain this hard-earned reputation,” she said.
Hasina was given a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent of the army. She took salute at the parade, and inspected the parade riding on an open jeep.
