Ashfaqul Islam made acting chief justice

Md Ashfaqul Islam has been appointed as the acting chief justice of Bangladesh, said the Supreme Court‍‍`s Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed to the media today (10 August).

It comes soon after  Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan stepped down from his post on the back of protests by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

In 1983, Ashfaqul Islam began his career as a lawyer in the District Court, and by 1985, he had advanced to become a lawyer in the Supreme Court‍‍`s High Court Division.

On 27 August 2003, he was appointed as an additional justice of the High Court Division, and two years later, on 27 August 2005, he was made a permanent Justice of the same division.

Later, he was promoted to the Appellate Division from the HC in December 2022.
