Clashes erupted between Awami League and BNP in Sirajganj. Party activists of the two groups were seen chasing each other with local weapons. The incident took place on Thursday (December 30) afternoon.
Earlier on Wednesday (December 29), BNP staged a protest rally in Feni ignoring Section 144 issued by the district administration.
Authorities imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order in the city, and prevent any counter rally or gatherings from 6:00 am till 6:00 pm, as both Awami League and BNP announced political rally on the same date in the same venue.
Addressing supporters at the rally in Feni, BNP said that at a time when there were rallies and demonstrations across the country demanding the immediate release and advanced medical treatment abroad of former prime minister and BNP cheif Khaleda Zia, the ruling Awami League again resorted to violence.
