The Bangladesh Army has urged the public not to pay heed to a "fake statement" making the rounds on social media, which falsely claims to represent members of the Armed Forces.
It issued a public awareness notice on its official Facebook page around 12:30pm on Friday, calling on citizens to ignore rumours and misinformation.
The notice includes an image of the fabricated statement, which falsely cites soldiers and junior officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The fake press release has been widely shared online.
“Recently, a vested group has published a fake press release using the logo of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create division between the armed forces and the people,” the Army wrote.
The Army also urged citizens to verify information before believing or sharing anything and to remain alert against such misinformation.
