Bangladesh is now the world's top jute producing country. Bangladesh has come to the top because of the decrease in India's production. This information is known from the latest statistical bulletin of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
According to information, Bangladesh has never been able to surpass India in the production of several products including jute. But India's jute production has steadily declined over the past few years. In the financial year 2020-21, the production of jute in India is 980 thousand tons. And the production of Bangladesh was 14 lakh 8 thousand tons. Through this, Bangladesh overcame India.
According to the data of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), in the history of Bangladesh in the financial year 2017-18, the maximum production of 1 lakh 87 thousand 300 acres of land was about 88 lakh 95 thousand bales of jute.
Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastgir Ghazi said that the government is working to solve the shortage of seeds to increase the production of jute. Jute growers are being trained in modern techniques.
