Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baharul Islam, has directed superintendents of police (SPs) in the country`s border districts to remain vigilant in light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The aim is to prevent any militants or criminals from crossing into Bangladesh during the ongoing conflict.
The directive was shared by Assistant Inspector General (Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar during a media interaction at the “Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition and IGP Cup-2024,” held on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Sports Federation in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Sagar noted that Bangladesh shares borders with India across 32 districts and with Myanmar across three.
In response to a question regarding potential threats arising from the current regional conflict, he reiterated the IGP’s instruction that law enforcement in the border regions must ensure national security is not compromised.
“The IGP has cautioned all 32 border district SPs to stay alert and strictly prevent any militant or terrorist infiltration amid the situation between India and Pakistan,” Sagar added.
