Bangladesh has confirmed that it will graduate from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category by 2026.
The government has ruled out any further delays, marking a crucial step in the country’s development journey.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council, which took place on Thursday, March 13, under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Following the meeting, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, briefed the media about the decision at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Earlier, there had been some discussions regarding postponing the country`s graduation from LDC status, which was initially scheduled for November 24, 2026.
On Tuesday, Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, the new special assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Finance, mentioned these considerations during a briefing.
However, the Advisory Council has now firmly decided to stick with the original timeline, ensuring Bangladesh’s transition to a developing country status in 2026.
In his remarks, Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the government is already preparing for the challenges that may arise during this transition.
Chief Adviser Yunus has instructed that all necessary steps be taken to ensure a smooth graduation.
This move is expected to further elevate Bangladesh`s global standing, showcasing its progress and development on the world stage.
