A central BNP leader and Union Parishad (UP) chairman from Habiganj has been accused in a murder case under the false identity of a Jubo League leader, following allegations of assault on students and the public.

This incident has sparked widespread discussion and criticism in the area. In response, BNP leaders have expressed their strong protest.

The accused BNP leader is Minhaj Uddin Chowdhury Kased, a member of the Madhabpur Upazila BNP in Habiganj.

He is also a founding member of the Central Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and a former joint convener of the Habiganj District BNP.

Currently, he serves as the UP chairman of Chhatiain Union in Madhabpur and is well-known in the area as a poet and writer.

According to reports, a case was filed on February 16th at Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka by Ibrahim, the son of Abdul Alim, in relation to an incident on August 4th in Mirpur.

The case involved allegations of violence, murder, assault, and vandalism during a student protest against inequality.

Based on a court order, an FIR was filed.

In the case, BNP leader Minhaj Uddin Chowdhury Kased is listed as the 44th accused.

Interestingly, his identity is falsely listed as a Jubo League leader in the case.

A total of 68 individuals, including former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former MP for Dhaka-15 Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, are named as accused in the case.

BNP leader Minhaj Uddin Chowdhury Kased has denied the charges, claiming that the case was fabricated by a group of businessmen to harass him.

He stated that he was actively involved in the anti-discrimination movement and that several journalists from his area were also named as accused in the same case.

He further claimed that he was framed politically to defame him.

In response, BNP leader and Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Habiganj Court, Sajidur Rahman Sajol, said that despite Minhaj Uddin Kased being a dedicated and influential leader of BNP, those who filed this case with the intention of harassment should also be brought under the law.

He expressed hope that the party would take action in this matter.

When contacted, Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taibur Rahman confirmed that the case was under investigation.

He assured that they were working to submit the charge sheet soon, emphasizing that no innocent person would be harassed.
