Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has nabbed a car driver of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and seized his vehicle along with gold bars and chains worth around Taka 82 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The detainee is Salehkuzzaman, said APBn Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque Zia.
Salekuzzaman entered the terminal using Gate Number 21 at the airport around 11am on Friday to collect five gold bars and 50 gold chains from a toilet of the airport.
Salehkuzzaman was arrested while he was crossing the green channel area of the airport, Zia added.
Later, during interrogation he confessed that he was carrying five gold bars and fifty chains worth Tk 82 lakh in his pockets which were recovered later.
The airport unit of APBn has been carrying out special anti-smuggling operations since April 12 ahead of Eid.
This campaign will be intensified, he added.
