Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, have been suffered a road accident.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (November 27) around 7:30pm, while they were returning after visiting the grave of advocate Saiful Islam Alif, a lawyer who was recently killed in Chattogram.
The accident took place at Haji Road intersection in the Chunti Union area along the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway, according to media reports.
The front portion of their vehicle was damaged in the incident.
However, both Hasnat and Sarjis escaped unhurt.
Lohagara Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Alim reported that a truck has been seized in connection with the incident, and a general diary (GD) is being processed. However, the exact cause of the accident remains unclear at this time.
According to ASI Alim, initial investigations show that the truck driver claimed to have unloaded goods in Cox’s Bazar after transporting them from Mymensingh. "However, no evidence of such unloading has been found," he stated.
In a separate development, a call for protest was issued at Dhaka University’s Raju Sculpture, alleging that a vested group attempted to harm student leaders. Abdul Hannan Masud, Chief Organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, posted on Facebook, stating, "While returning from paying respects at the grave of Shaheed Advocate Saiful Islam Alif around 7:30 pm, there was an attempt to attack the convoy carrying Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam."
