Lakshmipur gets country’s first ‘Smart Village’

Hossainpur village in Tewariganj union of Lakshmipur sadar upazila has become the country’s first ‘Smart Village’, reports BSS.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lakshmipur district Md Anwar Hossain Akand inaugurated the entrance gate of the village on Monday by unveiling a plaque and cutting ribbon.

DC Akand said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina promised to build a ‘Smart Bangladesh’. As part of that, Hossainpur village has been declared as a 'Smart Village' for the first time in the country.

He added, “PM wants to create smart citizens, smart economy, smart government and smart society. A total of five villages in the district will be declared as 'Smart Villages' in phases.”

“We’ve already given computer training to 50 youths of Hossainpur village. I’ve distributed cows among the helpless people to make them self-reliant. Besides, the village has been declared beggar-free.”

Additional Deputy Commi¬ssioner (General) Md Nur-A-Alam , Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sazia Parveen, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Meher Nigar, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman AKM Salah Uddin Tipu, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Imran Hosen, Tewariganj Union Parishad Chairman Omar Ibn  Hussain Bhulu and others attended the inauguration ceremony.
