DCs bought blame of being biased: Akbar Ali Khan

The personnel of Bangladesh civil services have accepted the blame of partiality, former advisor of the defunct caretaker government Dr Akbar Ali Khan has said.

There are many issues to talk on the country’s election. The civil services have been ruined. No political party trusts a DC, he said.

Akbar Ali Khan came up with the remarks while speaking as a guest at the eighth national conference of civil society body Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in the capital’s Kakrail area on Saturday.

“There are questions whether or not the election commission can hold the election in a fair manner. There is no such question in neighbouring India. All the returning officers in India are administrative officials. The Bangladesh civil services have been weakened. No political party believes in a DC,” he said.

“In India, election runs for 2-3 months. DCs keep the ballot boxes. Is there any DC in Bangladesh who can be trusted for a night to keep a ballot box? They have bought the blame of being biased. They don’t have the courage,” Akbar Ali furthered.

Mentioning the civil society as an integral part of democracy he said, in a democratic state, the duty of civil society is to uphold the analysis from the people’s point of view. Without civil society, the foundation of democracy is fragile.

He said, those who are critisising the government are not enemies; they are friends.
