The government has appointed Md. Ehsanul Haque, Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, as the new Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
The appointment was announced through an official notification issued by the ministry on Sunday—21 days after the previous secretary was transferred.
With this decision, the interim government has filled the key post of Public Administration Secretary, which had remained vacant for three weeks.
Following the fall of the Awami League government, the interim administration removed Senior Secretary Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury from the Ministry of Public Administration on August 28, 2024, appointing former Additional Secretary Md. Mokhlesur Rahman to the position. Mokhlesur Rahman had earlier been sent into retirement by the Awami League government.
Although he was appointed for a two-year term, the interim government reassigned him as a member of the Planning Commission on September 21 this year, after one year in office.
During his tenure, Mokhlesur Rahman drew media attention amid allegations of large-scale “financial transactions” surrounding the transfer of several deputy commissioners across the country. However, he strongly denied the accusations, saying there was “no element of truth” in them.
