Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that the interim government is expected to hold the next national parliament election by the end of this year.
He made the statement during a meeting with Zarah Bruhn, a commissioner of the German government, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Seeking Germany’s support for implementing his government’s reform initiatives, Prof Yunus emphasized the need for international cooperation.
"We need all your support for the New Bangladesh. We are working hard to make the general election a success," he said.
He also highlighted Dhaka’s aspiration to establish a “special relationship” with Germany to strengthen trade and investment ties with Europe’s largest economy.
"We have close relations with Germany, but we want a different relationship -- a special relationship -- with Germany," he added.
Zarah Bruhn, who is visiting Bangladesh to explore social businesses and microcredit, lauded Prof Yunus` leadership, expressing optimism about the country`s future under his guidance.
"I am a big enthusiast of your work," she said, adding that she is eager to introduce social businesses in Germany.
During the meeting, they also discussed the Three Zero Movement initiated by Prof Yunus, social business models, poverty alleviation strategies, and the future of welfare states.
Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG Affairs in the Bangladesh government, was also present at the meeting.
