An election campaign event at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, was disrupted by gunfire on Thursday night, leaving five people injured, including a child.
The incident occurred around 8:30 pm at Camp-25 in the Ali Khali area when campaign activities were underway.
Witnesses said a vehicle was being used to campaign, drawing a crowd from nearby areas.
As people gathered, a group of attackers suddenly fired shots, creating panic and chaos at the scene. Five individuals were hit and later taken for medical treatment.
Two of the injured are Rohingyas- Abdur Rahman, 36, and Mohammad Jisan, 13.
The remaining three are Bangladeshi nationals: Baccha Mia, 38, Nusrat Jahan, 18, and Shahabuddin, 11.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer in Charge Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the shooting. He said police are investigating the incident and trying to identify those involved.
