The omicron variant which was first detected in South Africa now spread in 90 countries around the world. The government is fearing of the variant as people hardly maintain Covid-19 safety protocols, said health minister Zahid Maleque.
Terming Bangladesh as an example to contain the deadly coronavirus he said, “We have to hold the present lower infection rate tight. All hospitals now have adequate support of oxygen.”
Mentioning the role of coronavirus vaccine Zahid Maleque said, “About 7 crore people received the first dose of the vaccine accounting for 60 per cent of the total population while almost 4.5 crore people received two shots which is equivalent to 30 percent.”
“Government has a target to inoculate 12-13 crore countrymen,” added he.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s visit to the Maldives he said, “Maldives want to recruit physicians, nurses and health workers from Bangladesh. The two countries are expected to sign a deal in this regard.”
