Police have confirmed that the tragic death of Mohammad Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, the Acting Vice Principal of Habibullah Bahar College, was the result of an attempted sexual assault on a woman he had taken in as a refugee.
This revelation was made by authorities in a press briefing held on Wednesday morning.
The police investigation revealed that just four days before the murder, Saifur Rahman had provided shelter to a married couple at his residence.
The man had been threatened with death, and his wife was repeatedly targeted by Saifur in an attempt to sexually assault her.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Zone Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Muhidul Islam, confirmed these details.
On the morning of March 9, Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan was found severely wounded in his home in the Puraan Para area of Uttar Khan, Uttara.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The case was filed by Saifur`s younger brother, and the accused couple was soon arrested in Faridpur.
During a press conference, police explained that the couple had met Saifur four days earlier at a railway station.
They were offered a place to stay at his house.
Unfortunately, Saifur began making advances on the wife shortly after they arrived.
On the night of March 9, Saifur attempted to assault the woman while she was sleeping.
The husband noticed what was happening, and a confrontation ensued.
In the chaos, the couple attacked Saifur with a cleaver. They locked him in the bathroom and escaped from the scene.
At the time of his death, Saifur Rahman had been living alone in a rented apartment in Uttar Khan, having recently moved there from a shared residence with his wife in Shantinagar.
