Expressing solidarity with the protesters of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) noted writer professor Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal said, “Five former students of the university have been arrested for giving the protesters humanitarian support. I have received taka 10 thousand writing an article on Bangabandhu. I give that money to you. Let them arrest me.”
Visiting the protesters early Wednesday in the campus premises the former SUST teacher said, “I want to see, who is there to arrest met. If I am arrested for helping you, let it be. I know the IGP. Through the media I want to say, don’t beat the student.”
Urging the administration not to harass the students with lawsuits, Zafar Iqbal said, “You made a blunder through what you have done so far.”
Earlier, Zafar Iqbal along with his wife Professor Yasmeen Haque arrived at the university campus at around 4am.
They went directly to the shed where the protesting students were resting and urged them to break their fast. They told them that the demands made by the students will be met.
Responding to which the students agreed to break their fast a few hours later.
