A Dhaka court has granted bail to Milton Samaddar, chairman of Child & Old Age Care, in a case over alleged death certificate forgery.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order on Monday.
Milton alleged provided 50 fake death certificates through fraudulence. Milton, who used to identify himself as a physician, gave shelter to elderly persons, children and people with disability in his health care center named Child & Old Age Care.
Police took him in remand on May 2 to investigate whether he had any certificate of physician he was involved in killing people or torturing them physically and mentally in the name of providing treatment and whether he was involved in organ smuggling, it said.
Detectives on May 1 arrested Milton from the city’s Mirpur area.
It came as a news report claimed that Samaddar, who had been recognised for his public service through various awards, was allegedly involved in significant wrongdoing. While his social media profile publicized his work in building an old age home for the helpless and providing shelter to the homeless, more sinister allegations have surfaced.
Allegations include the illegal trade of human organs, specifically pointing to the cutting and selling of kidneys.
The revelations led to individuals speaking out and a flurry of discussions on social media, culminating in Samaddar`s detainment.
Mohammad Kamal Pasha, sub-inspector of DB of Mirpur division, filed the case with Mirpur Police Station on May 2.
