The suspended assistant proctor Deen Islam of Jagannath University (JnU), who was arrested in connection with law student Fairuz Abontika`s suicide, was freed from the Comilla jail on bail on Wednesday.
However, another accused, Abantika’s classmate Raihan Siddique Amman, is still in prison.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Md Feroz Hossain said that Deen Islam was released on bail on the order of the High Court.
Family members of Deen Islam received him at the jail gate after his release, he said.
Earlier on March 16, police arrested the two accused following the death of Fairuz Abantika who committed suicide the previous day.
They were suspended on the same day.
Deen Islam is a teacher at the university`s management studies department while Raihan is a law student.
Earlier, Deen Islam was removed from the post of assistant proctor of the university.
Abontika was found hanging from the ceiling of her room in her parents` house in Bagichagaon area of Comilla on March 15.
Doctors declared her dead when family members took her to Cumilla Medical College Hospital on Friday, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Firoz Hossain told the media at around 10:00am.
Her classmates claimed that Abontika wrote on Facebook that the law department student Raihan Siddique Amman had sexually harassed her and when she informed it to assistant proctor Deen Islam, he verbally abused her instead of taking action against Raihan.
