Habibur Rahman, a senior reporter for the Daily Somoyer Alo and former organizing secretary of the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) has been killed in a motorcycle accident.
The incident took place in Hatirjheel area of the capital around 2.30 am on Tuesday, officials said.
He was a reporter for the Awami League Beat of the Daily.
“We came to know that a motorcycle hit road island at Hatirjheel area in front of the mosque on the Begunbari slope losing control. When he was later taken to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead,” police told media
Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, also confirmed the matter.
He said a pedestrian rescued him from Hatirjheel at midnight and brought him to the DMCH. The pedestrian said that Habibur Rahman fell with his motorcycle on the sidewalk near Hatirjheel Akij Building. He died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
The body of the deceased is in the morgue of the emergency department of DMCH.
Habib Rahman, a graduate from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka University, has worked in several media outlets. He made several important reports on the just-concluded Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections.
Habib Rahman is survived by his son and wife.
