Journalists faced two instances of assault by the police during a protest staged by students of Medical Assistant Training Schools (MATS), who were demonstrating to demand recruitment in vacant posts alongside three other demands.
The first incident occurred in front of the Secretariat, where the police baton-charged the media personnel.
Later, as the protesters moved to Shahbagh police station, another round of baton charges took place.
In these two rounds of attacks, six journalists sustained injuries.
The injured journalists have claimed that the police intentionally targeted them during the assaults.
Kawser Ahmed Ripon, a journalist from The Report Live and one of the injured, explained that the police attacked them while they were gathering information about the MATS students` protest.
Despite displaying their press cards, the police proceeded to hit them with batons and kicked them with their boots.

Later, when they went inside the police station to demand accountability for the assault, they were subjected to yet another round of baton charges inside the station.
Currently, the injured journalists are protesting outside the police station, calling for justice for the assaults.
Among the injured are Kawser Ahmed Ripon from The Report Live, Asif and Mahadi from Kaler Kantho, Azhar from Bangladesh Pratidin, Mohammad Redwan from Jaago News and Shimul Khan from Breaking News Dot Com.
After receiving initial medical treatment, they have returned to the police station’s entrance to continue their protest.
In response to inquiries about the attacks on the journalists, Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M Shahabuddin Shaheen of Shahbagh Police Station commented that the issue is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Ramna Zone DC Masood Alam assured to address this issue. Meanwhile, Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser`s Press Wing, Abul Kalam Azad said, "We have witnessed incidents of torture against journalists across the country." Soon the concerned authorities will be urged to take swift action in this regard.
