Seven suspected robbers and thieves found themselves on the receiving end of public justice after being caught in the act and beaten by locals in various parts of Dhaka on Sunday.

The events took place in Jatrabari, Motijheel, and Chawkbazar.

The injured individuals, all involved in criminal activities, were rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The police brought them in after the locals had handed out the punishment.

Among the injured were four robbers from Jatrabari, one thief from Motijheel, and two others from Chawkbazar. The men have been identified as Rafiqul Islam (36), Ripon Mia (42), Robiul Islam (40), Sohag Mia (54), Mohammad Tanmoy (22), Apu (38), and Arif (45).

According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Farzana of Jatrabari Police Station, the four men were professional robbers.

She explained, "Around noon, these individuals tried to rob in the Konapara area of Jatrabari. However, the locals caught them in the act and gave them a good beating. The police then arrived and took them to the hospital. After receiving treatment, they were taken to the police station."

In a separate incident, at around 3:30 p.m., another thief was caught trying to snatch a mobile phone in Motijheel’s AGB Colony.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Sabur Khan from Motijheel Police Station stated, "The thief was beaten by the locals and is now receiving medical treatment at the emergency department."

These incidents highlight the growing frustration among the public towards criminal activities and their willingness to take matters into their own hands.
