Education Minister Dipu Moni has held a virtual meeting with the protesters of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin.
However, the meeting ended with no major development and the students declared to continue the hunger strike programme and the movement.
The meeting sources said, the education minister suggested the students place their demands in black and white. She will take steps after receiving the scripted demands.
The minister also requested the protesters to break the fasting. The delegation of protesting students is expected to hold another meeting with Dipu Moni on Sunday.
The protesters said, they will apprise the minister of the matter on Sunday once they had discussed it with the rest of the protesters.
The sources said, a delegation of the Awami League came to SUST representing the education minister at around 12.30am Saturday night.
Accompanied by Sylhet city unit AL general secretary Md. Zakir Hossain, joint general secretary Bidhan Kumar Saha, UK AL joint secretary Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury the party’s central organizing secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury led the delegation.
Among the protesters 25-30 students were present. Of them, two have been observing fasting unto death.
Following the meeting, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury briefed the media. He said, the students placed various demands during the meeting. The education minister heard them with patience. Hearing everything she urged the students to withdraw from the hunger strike programme. Besides, she assured the students saying that they will face no legal and academic problems.
