The presentation of the national budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year has officially begun.
Bangladesh Television started broadcasting the budget speech live from 3:00 PM on Monday, delivered by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The interim government’s Advisory Council, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, has already approved the proposed budget of Tk 7.90 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year.
Of the proposed amount, the revenue budget is set at Tk 5.74 trillion. Notably, this year`s budget is Tk 70 billion less than the current fiscal year’s budget — marking the first time in the country’s history that the overall budget size has decreased.
Following the political shift after the July coup, the budget is being presented in a new format outside of the traditional parliamentary process.
According to the Ministry of Finance, this year’s budget speech includes a brief overview of the context behind the formation of the current interim government and the country’s socio-economic landscape.
All relevant budget documents and data can be accessed and downloaded by individuals or organizations from the Ministry of Finance website (www.mof.gov.bd) and the National Board of Revenue website (www.nbr.gov.bd).
