The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be restructured, according to Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Home Affairs Adviser.
Speaking after a meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Committee at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (May 12), he said a committee has already been formed to carry out the reformation of the elite force.
He also announced that the police will no longer be allowed to carry lethal weapons.
The adviser further stated that all garment workers must be paid their wages and allowances before Eid. However, any unlawful demands will not be tolerated and will be met with strict measures.
To prevent extortion during the cattle market season ahead of Eid, the adviser instructed that 100 Ansar members be deployed at each cattle market. He also emphasized ensuring smooth travel for holidaymakers and directed that extortion on roads must be completely curbed.
