96th postponement of submitting investigation report for Sagar-Runi murder

The time for submitting the investigation report in a case on the slayings of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi has been extended by a Dhaka court to April 9.

After the investigating officer for the Rapid Action Battalion failed to turn in the report, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam issued the order on Sunday, making the 96th deadline extension.

Earlier, two different judges expressed their dissatisfaction with the investigation's findings and the investigative agency's failure to identify the murderers' true motives and apprehend them.

In their rented apartment in the capital's West Razabazar, Sagar, a news editor of the private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife, Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed on February 11, 2012. Mahir Sarowar Megh, their only child, was at home at the time and was 5 years old.

The following day, Runi's brother Nousher Ali Roman filed a case at the Sher-e-Bangla police station in connection to the killings.
