Authorities imposed Section 144 in Cox’s Bazar town following programme announcements made by the district branch of BNP and Awami League's ally Juba League at the same time and place.
Section 144 will be in place from Monday (January 3) morning till Tuesday morning in and around Shaheed Swarani Road adjacent to the BNP office in Cox's Bazar.
According to the district administration, the ban has been issued to keep the law and order situation normal due to the rallies, said Cox's Bazar Additional District Magistrate Abu Sufyan on Sunday evening confirming the matter.
According to local sources, the Cox's Bazar district BNP called the rally at 1pm on Monday at Cox's Bazar's Shaheed Swarani Road to demand the release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her treatment abroad.
Cox's Bazar district branch BNP general secretary Advocate Shamim Ara Swapna said that among the central leaders, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, chairperson's advisor Mizanur Rahman Minu, organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and other central leaders are expected to present the rally.
BNP central leader Lutfur Rahman Kajal told the media, "In the meantime, all preparations have been completed for Monday's rally. I have informed everyone. As a democratic country, I expect the administration, Awami League and all to cooperate. ”
Abu Sufian said, "Section 144 has been issued out of fear of a tense situation due to the programmes of both the parties." The administration is on the ground to thwart any untoward incident. 144 issuance documents are being sent to the police station. Then it will be announced in loudspeaker.”
