SSC, HSC exams next year likely to be deferred by two months

Due to the coronavirus, the SSC and HSC exams have been deferred this year and the exams in 2022 will not be held as scheduled.

A source close to the Education Board has confirmed that the SSC and HSC examinations next year would be held two months after the scheduled time.

According to the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Dhaka, although the SSC examination is usually held in February every year, the examination of 2022 may be held later in April. Similarly, the HSC examination may also be held in June instead of April. However, everything depends on the coronavirus infection situation.

According to the relevant sources, the current year's candidates do not have to read the entire syllabus for the exams. A short syllabus has already been published. Candidates will take part in the examination after reading this short syllabus. However, after the scheduled time next year, all the subjects might be tested.

Professor Nehal Ahmed, the coordinator of the Inter-Education Board and chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, was contacted several times on his mobile phone but could not be found.

On condition of anonymity, an official of the Dhaka Education Board said that next year's SSC and HSC examinations might be delayed for at least two months. A final decision will be taken in the next few days. He said this year's exams have been delayed by nine months due to corona. It can be deferred by two months next year. If all goes well, the two exams from 2023 could be held in February and April, he said.

The deadly coronavirus has spread worldwide since the outbreak in China in December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11 last year.

On March 6, 2020, the first case of coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh. On March 17 last year, the Department of Health confirmed the first death in the country due to coronavirus. The number of people identified as infected with coronavirus exceeded 7 lakh on May 31.

After that, all the educational institutions of the country were declared closed to reduce the coronavirus infection. The educational institutions, which had been closed for a year and a half due to the pandemic, were reopened on September 12 following the improvement of the pandemic scenario.
