State minister for Shipping visits launch fire victims at burn institute

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has visited the Jhalokathi launch fire survivors who are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute (SHNIBPS) in the capital.

Senior information officer of the ministry Md. Jahangir Alam informed this to media in a press release on Monday.

The state minister met the survivors to witness the condition. He wished quick recoveries for the admitted victims, Jahangir Alam said.

Burn institute coordinator Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, director Dr. Abul Kalam and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq were present among others on the occasion.

As many as 21 survivors were admitted to SHNIBPS. Of them three succumbed and five recovered while 13 people are still undergoing treatment. Among them, three injured were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Jahangir furthered.

The Barguna-bound launch MV Abhijan-10 caught fire at the mid-Sugandha river on 24 December. State Minister Khalid rushed to Jhalokathi soon after the incident was reported.

He visited the burn injured at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Jhalokathi Sadar hospital.

Khalid, also the organizing secretary of ruling Awami League, visited the launch in Jhalokathi.
