The government has started selling some key essential food items at subsidised rates to some 10 million (1 crore) low-income families from Monday.
The programme is being operated by state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) under the Ministry of Commerce.
Four items - lentil, sugar, soybean oil and onion -will be sold to the one crore family cardholders across the country, including the capital, through the designated dealers of the TCB at fixed permanent installation points.
A consumer will be able to buy maximum 1 kilogram (kg) of sugar at Tk 55, 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 a litre, 2 kg of lentil at Tk 65 per kg and 2 kg of onion at Tk 20 a kg.
