In a recent incident at Joypur, Gazipur, two trains, one carrying passengers and the other laden with fuel, collided, causing significant damage to coaches and wagons. The recovery operation spanned over approximately 32 hours, finally concluding Saturday evening.
According to officials, normal train services between Dhaka and the northern and western regions resumed following the removal of the wreckage. However, it is anticipated that the schedule on this route will take considerable time to return to normalcy.
Earlier on Friday morning around 11 am, a collision occurred in the vicinity of the outer signal of Joypur station, about a kilometer away. The collision involved a fuel-laden wagon and a Tangail commuter train. As a result, eight coaches from the two trains were derailed, and four individuals, including the locomotive crew, sustained injuries.
A thorough investigation into the incident is underway, with separate committees formed by the district administration and the railway department to ascertain the causes behind the collision.
