Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has announced the cancellation of contracts for two officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) due to negligence in their duties.
In response to journalists` questions about corruption among high-ranking officials, Quader made this statement on Wednesday at the political office of the Awami League President.
Addressing the issue of taking action against important individuals accused of corruption, Quader said, "Today, the contracts of two key officials from the Prime Minister’s Office have been terminated. You are getting this report now.”
When asked whether the dismissed officials faced corruption allegations, Quader replied, “I am not aware if there are any corruption allegations against them. Surely, there has been some negligence in their duties, but I do not know the specifics.”
Recently, BNP leaders have accused the government of targeting Benazir and Aziz Ahmed now that they are no longer needed.
Quader responded, “Your question is incorrect. They claim that Benazir and Aziz Ahmed are creations of the Awami League. I want to ask, Ashraful Huda, Rakibul Huda, Kohinoor—whose creations are they?”
“I want to know, who created Hawa Bhaban, the hub of corruption and looting? I want answers to these questions. They raised questions, and I am countering with my own. Rakibul Huda was a former IGP; on January 24, during our leader’s meeting in Chittagong, he was targeted and shot at. Did they seek justice for this?” said Quader.
He continued, “Benazir was our IGP during the Awami League`s tenure. Now his matter is a personal issue. We cannot hold an institution accountable for an individual. As the matter has come to light, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating. After the investigation, they will certainly file a case. Whoever has committed crimes will face appropriate punishment. Did any BNP leader, government official, or former police officer face punishment for their crimes during BNP’s rule? Sheikh Hasina has the integrity to maintain zero tolerance for corruption.”
“Whenever an issue is revealed, swift action is taken. During the COVID-19 pandemic, those involved in the fake hospital scam were not pardoned by our leader. Even now, punishment will be meted out according to the crime, with no exceptions,” Quader added.
