Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested four people along with 2 lakh 58 thousand pieces of contraband yaba tablet worth taka 7 crore 74 lakh during separate drives. A trawler used for drug trafficking was also sieged.
Teknaf BGB battalion 2 disclosed the information about the drives during a press briefing on Thursday night. BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammed Iftekhar read out a written press note during the conference.
As many as 78 thousand yaba tablets were recovered during a drive on Thursday evening and four people were held from Naf River at Noyapara in Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila while 1 lakh 80 thousand pills were confiscated on Wednesday night from Kharangkhali area at Hoaikong union of the upazila, the official said.
The detainees were identified as Chhewachi (38) and Nem U Cha (36), both Myanmar citizens, Md. Jahangir Alam (42) from Hnila union and Md. Hafez Ahmed (40)from Shahpori Dweep.
